Andrew Deacon of Wrexham-Shropshire & Louis Barnet of Chokolit

Andrew Deacon of Wrexham-Shropshire & Louis Barnet of Chokolit

This morning saw an early start for young Chocolatier Louis Barnett f Shropshire based ‘chokolit’. Louis is Celebrating National Chocolate Week (12th-18th October)  by creating his ‘chokolit Tasting Menu’ in association with Michelin accredited ‘Mint Leaf‘ restaurants in London.

The early 8.30 train from RAF Cosford was Louis first call – service provided with complements of Wrexham and Shropshire Railways who are celebrating stocking Louis ‘Biting Back’ range of bars on all their service to and from London.

Louis was met by Andy Deacon, Finance manager who said “We always like to support local producers and we are now pleased to be stocking Louis Chokolit on all our routes as of today – We wish Louis all the best during Chocolate week, and welcome him to travel on any of our trains to london in the future”

Louis has been developing his ‘Chokolit tasting Menu’ for the past few weeks with the Michelin accredited team at Mint Leaf, the acclaimed London restaurant.

The menu is described as the “story of taste” and includes dishes from Corgi style Pork Belly with caramelised red onions with ginger, green chilli, curry leaves, 80% dark chocolate and cocoa nibs to Chocolate Savrin with Black Cardamom and Grapefruit Foam, all dishes are designed as an exploration of flavour.

Featuring cocoa in every course as well as in the specially prepared drinks that accompany each part of the meal. There will also be an additional individually priced table menu with a choice of starters, main courses and desserts. The dishes make excellent use of seasonal ingredients, and are part of Louis exploration of flavours, at all levels “My passion is for experimenting with flavours. Chocolate is such a versatile product, and each original has different flavour-notes. This has been an excellent opportunity fr me to work with Asian chefs who have a completely different approach to Western chefs – using more spices, herbs, and marinades to crate there flavours. This experience has been a real eye opener and many of the new things I have learned I will be applying to my works with local chefs, and new products.”

This exciting and unusual combination of Indian cuisine and chocolate promises to create an exceptionally memorable dining experience as well as benefiting huge numbers of sick children and their families.

Running throughout Chocolate Week (12th-18th October), the dishes will be priced from £8 each, with 10% of all orders made on the Chocolate Week Menu going to the Sick Children’s Trust. At Mint Leaf Haymarket, a special cocktail has been created for the occasion.
