Weston Park, Staffordshire  ~ Chocoholics Delight

Weston Park, the stately home on the Shropshire / Staffordshire border has introduced a new fine dining occasion for April 2011, with a menu based entirely around chocolate.

Taking place on Saturday 16th April, Head Chef Guy Day will create a menu of five mouth-watering courses using different varieties of chocolate to compliment each dish, a true chocoholic’s delight!

Traditionally associated with sweet courses, Chocolate has been used in cooking since Cortez discovered chocolate in 600BC. When he arrived in Mexico he found that cacao was mainly used as a spice, but sweetened as a drink for the upper classes and thickened with cornmeal as a drink for the lower classes.

Guy Day comments: “I have used various different varieties of chocolate to create the menu. For example I have used an Araguani in the starter – which gives liquorice, raisin and chestnut hints and Cacao Nibs in the main course which are shelled and roasted cacao beans.”

Dinner will be served in the historic Dining Room surrounded by the cream of the Weston Park collection, including works by Van Dyck and Lely. As with all of Weston’s Dining Occasions, this is a great opportunity to dine and stay in one of England’s finest stately homes. Guy concludes: “Just like good wine, great chocolate has distinctive features which compliments savoury cooking very well and isn’t very rich and overpowering.”

The Chocoholics Delight Dining Occasion is £75 per person and includes a five-course dinner with coffee and petit-fours. Bed and Breakfast in the House is £160 per double room.
