Michelin Chef Runs for Birmingham Homeless

Chef Richard Turner with fellow runner James Day of Great Midlands Fun Run

Chef Richard Turner of Turners Restaurant, Michelin Restaurant this weekend completed his goal of completing the Midlands fun Run, under his target time of 2 hours, for the City’s homeless.

As we reported exclusively earlier this year, Richard suffered personal tragedy when his own home was burnt down following a tragic electrical fire just before Christmas – losing him all his personal possessions, including family Christmas presents, and rendering him and his wife homeless over the Christmas period.

Richard vowed to help the City’s homeless following the wake-up call of sleeping on his restaurant floor in his chef whites during Christmas – True to his word Richard joined thousands of runners on Sunday in Sutton Coldfield to brave the surprising heat, to run the 8.5 miles around the town, and through the parks. “I had not had time to train much for the run” commented Richard “The restaurant has been very busy this year, and despite best intentions, training always came low down on my list after long service,  so I was a bit apprehensive  of doing the run, not helped by a late injury on my knee. But the cause of the Homeless and my chosen charity ‘Sifa-Fireside’ spurred me on.

The crowds on the day, and adrenalin motivated me, and after the first couple of miles we really got into it, the atmosphere was great, and some of the people taking part suffered from disabilities which really put things into perspective. We were delighted to complete well within my personal target, and help raise needed funds for the City’s homeless.” Richard, through donations from customers in his restaurant and on line helped raise over £800 for the City’s homeless and vowed to raise more “I would like to thank everyone for their generous donations, and kind words of encouragement along the course on Sunday, and I am hoping to at least double my funds raised so far with a dinner in aid of Sifa Fireside later in the Summer”

Richard has set up a just giving page for new donations helping him towards his goal of £2000, if you can help. One donator will win a place at his tasting menu for the homeless dinner later this year:
