New Loughborough deli to offer a finer slice of European cuisine

A new delicatessen, Delice Deli Café, has opened in Loughborough town centre, and will bring fine foods from Europe to gastronomes in the town.

Situated on Baxter Gate, the new deli café will offer an array of fine food and drink from artisan cheeses, charcuterie (cured meats), and oils and vinegars to handmade jams and chutneys, fine wines and bottled real ales from local microbreweries.

Customers of the deli will also be able to try out the foods on the premises, in the adjoining café.

The brainchild of Sharon Palmer and Laurent Gerbert, the one time personal chef to the Admiral of the French Navy, Delice Deli Café was created to bring some of the finer city deli experiences to Loughborough.

The couple have a vast experience of the food industry, having managed the front of house and restaurants of a number of boutique hotels in the east of England, and managing a hugely successful seven year tenure of The Blue Bell pub and restaurant in Hoby, near Melton Mowbray.

“We wanted to create the full delicatessen experience for our customers and share with them some of the great foods that we’ve managed to source from across Europe and on our doorstep,” explains owner Laurent Gerbert.

“We’ve had a fantastic reception so far, with our good network of friends in the town making the name known and keeping us busy, and we’re already drawing up some of our future plans for Delice’s next stage.”

Delice will also offer Laurent’s own pates, tomato sauces and baked hams, and the café will serve his own menu. The take away offer includes freshly made baguettes and ciabattas and also fresh baked French bread, which will be available from 11:00am each day.

In addition to the deli and café, Delice has also launched a Cold Finger Buffet service for corporate clients’ business lunches.

With a staff of five, Delice Deli Café is open from 8:30 – 5:30 Monday to Saturday.
