Walsall based, fine dining Indian restaurant, Five Rivers A La Carte, have just been announced “Newcomer of the Year 2012” at the national British Curry Awards.

Now in it’s eighth year, and dubbed the ‘Curry Oscars’ by Prime Minister, David Cameron, the lavish, star studded Awards was held at Battersea Evolution in London. This year’s prestigious British Curry Awards has seen a record number of nominations with over 700,000 nominations from across the UK, and is at the pinnacle of award ceremonies for Indian restaurants.

Jennie Bond and Rory Bremner were the celebrity hosts for the evening, with Rory Bremner prompting much laughter from guests with his Oscar worthy famously brilliant impressions. Regular high profile guest and Prime Minister, David Cameron, who unfortunately could not attend the awards this year, sent a “good luck” video message to all guests. Other guests included entrepreneur and star of Dragons’ Den, Theo Paphitis, actor, Shane Ritchie, and comedian, Roy Walker, as well as a selection of MP’s from across the UK. Five Rivers A La Carte were presented their award for “Newcomer of the Year”, in the Midlands category, by national PR Guru, Max Clifford.

Guests were served a lavish three course meal and entertained by an array of talents from across the nation. Organisers of the event teamed up with media partners such as ITN, Star Plus, BBC and the Daily Mirror in a bid to create an amazing spectacle to dazzle all guests on the evening. Some of the prominent sponsors included Pataks, HSBC, Pepsi and J2O.

Group Sales & Marketing Director, Shamim HM, comments: “We were honoured to have won the Hello Curry Awards earlier this year, let alone to go on to win Newcomer of the Year at such a prestigious awards ceremony as the British Curry Awards. I am extremely proud of everyone who has worked so very hard to get us here, particularly our Group Executive Chef, Rashpal Sunner, whose amazing talent and skill has gained Five Rivers such high praises, and we hope the success continues.”
