Birmingham Silverware Company wins contract from Largest Hotel Company in the World

A Birmingham company is on top of the world after beating off competition from France, Germany and China to win a lucrative deal to supply designer tableware to worlds largest Hotel Operator Intercontinental Hotels latest 5* Hotel which has just opened in London.

Heritage Silverware LTD, which is based in Small Heath, Birmingham faced rival bids from across the world to supply the first Intercontinental Hotel to open in London for 36 years.

Costing £150 million the 5* Hotel has just opened in the heart of Westminster. Spread across six floors it features 256 beautifully designed rooms including 44 luxurious suites and an imposing penthouse.
Some 23,000 pieces of silver and china as well as other complimentary tabletop products were designed and produced in just 7 weeks to equip this iconic building.

Heritage were asked to come up with designs that would reflect and compliment many of the features that the Hotel owners had built into the Hotel.

For example in Emmeline’s Restaurant which is seen as an oasis at the hotel’s centre, named after the 19th Century British political activist Emmeline Pankhurst, founder of the suffragette movement.

The company designed and manufactured unique items in silver and also fine Bone china including for its Afternoon Tea service Tree shaped tea stands and bone china with the same delicate leaf designs.

The Owners wanted to bring the feel of a British Pub to its all day dinning ” Blue Boar Restaurant and Bar ” so again Heritage designed and made cutlery with Antique finishes, Special Oyster stands and even produced a range of wood ware for steak and burger dishes.

Heritage Collection owner Martin McDonagh said he was delighted the company had been selected to produce new designs and products for Intercontinental especially as it was such an important opening being their first one in the capital for so many years. Already we have had great reaction in the 2 weeks following the opening and will be a incredible and important showcase for the company’s’ products in the very heart of London

He said that it was further proof of how vital it had been over the past 12 years to invest in the latest High Tec design and rapid prototype facilities. It has proved to be the best decision we ever made as sadly as we have seen almost all our fellow manufactures close down or give up manufacturing altogether in UK , yet we have never been more in demand.” He continued “These Hi Tech facilities and our highly skilled workforce give Heritage Collection the ability to design, and manufacture unique cutlery, glassware and tableware which very few companies in the world can match”

Heritage Collection were praised for their quality craftsmanship, and attention to detail by the Hotel Group.

Hotel Manager Scot Turner said: “ We chose Heritage Collection LTD as they from day one understood our vision and criteria for this opening and won the contract on innovative product, quality and service. We were all very pleased that a British Company could rise to the challenge and we certainly feel that we made the right choice in awarding them this contract.

Heritage was founded in 1976 and is run by Mr McDonagh, his wife, Mireille, and their children, Nathalie and Anthony. Mr McDonagh added: “We’ve been honoured to manufacture for clients all around the world from the famous Orient Express trains to iconic Hotels such as The Ritz, and The Dorchester as well as Birmingham’s Michelin-starred restaurants.

This latest opening seals a remarkable successful year for the Company during which they have been awarded several other important openings both around the world and of course ” La Tour Hotel” which opened in Birmingham earlier this year.

Mr McDonagh said “that yet again this success underlines the strength of Birmingham still as a great manufacturing base, despite the recession. He said: “We’re specialist manufacturers of fine silverware, cutlery and China for the world’s best restaurants. We hear so much doom and gloom about the economy; happily its another success story that the people of Birmingham can be proud about”.
