With the UK press lording the growth of Michel-INNS, and two Michelin Star Chef Tom Kerridge now outselling Jamie Oliver with his new book ‘Proper Pub Food’, a Birmingham Michelin Chef has stepped up to the hot plate to pay homage and to create a “Michel-Inn” Midlands style.

Chef Richard Turner of Turners Restaurant Birmingham has teamed up with the proprietor of the much loved Country Pub ‘The Bell’ in the picturesque Warwickshire village of Tanworth in Arden, to create a true pop-up restaurant for avid gourmands, for one night only.

Chef Richard who’s Harborne Restaurant was recently named as the Midlands Best Restaurant by the readers of The Good Food Guide has been resident in his bijoux restaurant on Harborne High Street since 2009 when he was awarded his first Michelin Star, and has since been popular with diners seeking out an intimate dining experience from Richard’s menus which are known for their fresh seasonal flavours and creativity – however he is now set to bring a ‘Taste of Turners’ dining to this equally bijoux Warwickshire village “Cooking is my passion” comments Richard “But sometimes its good to challenge yourself and step out of your comfort zone to create new dishes, and experiences for a wider market. I have popped into the Bell on a number of occasions and like the relaxed feel of it, set in the lovely sleepy village of Tanworth in Arden, and often thought it would be nice to create a menu for such a setting, so after a few chats with owner Ashley, we decided to give it a go, and rise to my own challenge of creating a menu for twice as many diners as I am used to at Turners, but also return to my event catering days, and Warwickshire routes, and cook for a wider audience – its going to be fun”.

Chef Richard has created an interpretation of his Turners style menus, fit for a Country pub setting. Ashley Bent of the Bell adds “Though some of my customers have eaten at Turners, and sampled other Michelin Restaurants in the region, as well as further afield, many haven’t, but the ‘Michelin style’ has been subject of great discussions in my bar on many occasions, most recently with the growth of the Michelin style pub, and so we thought it would be good to bring this style to my regulars and perhaps those who had not enjoyed such food in a Country pub setting before, for this one off taster of Michelin cuisine, but I guess with a Bell twist”.

Spaces will be on a first come first served basis when Ashley launches the booking line on Thursday October 17th at midday, leaving just 4 weeks to book this unique event “We will be keeping the intimate relaxed feel of the Bell that my regulars like, and diners will be able to enjoy Richard’s creations, whilst seating at our stripped wood pub tables, and maybe enjoying a pint of local ale or wines of course, and we will also be offering a wine matching option to go with each dish for those who want to push the boat out – but essentially we want the occasion to be enjoyable, inspirational and accessible to those who may range from first time Michelin diners, to avid gourmands who have perhaps experienced Michelin cuisine a number of times, but want to try it in a Warwickshire pub setting. Above all, it will be fun.”

Turner added “Guests in Turners in Harborne on the night will be looked after by my full brigade including my new Head Chef Alex Bond who was a recent finalist in the Chef of The Year and has worked at the Auberge du Lac, as well as with Sat Bains, and Pool Court in Yorkshire, and I will be overseeing both venues on the night, which is a step forward for me to focus on the whole experience and gain direct customer feedback”

Since Mallory Court, also in Warwickshire, surprisingly lost their Michelin Star in September, this will be the only opportunity to experience Michelin Style cooking in Warwickshire.

James Day of Gourmet-Life Lifestyle Dining Club, and BITE Food Festivals & Events, joint promoters of this special event added “With the UK press lording the growth of Michel-INNS, and two Michelin Star Chef Tom Kerridge now outselling Jamie Oliver with his new book ‘Proper Pub Food’ it’s great that Richard has stepped up to the ‘hot plate’ to create a “Michel-Inn” Midlands style for the regions gourmands and our members.”

Turners at The Bell will be hosted on Thursday November 14th from 6pm-9pm. Bookings will be limited to 45 covers at serving intervals to suit. Guests will enjoy a specially created 5 course fixed ‘tasting’ style menu plus amuse bouche for £45 each, wine matching option available. Accommodation on a first come first served basis.
