Last night saw the launch of a new generation of restaurants which are appearing in Ludlow. It seems the reported demise of Ludlow as one of the Gourmet- Capitals of the UK is somewhat premature. The launch of the revamped ‘Mail Rooms’ situated in the Old Post Office half way down Corve Street was deemed a great success by those selected guests who were invited, and indeed was supported by equally as well praised Chefs from the County.

Chef Will Holland who attended as a guest and supported new young Chef Patron Chef Will Mason praised the food and dedication of the young Will. Also in attendance was Chef Stuart Philipps who was instrumental in the training of young Will at his renowned Country pub and Restaurant near Bridgnorth ” ‘Billy’ joined us when he was 14, and was green and keen when he entered our kitchens at the Hundred House, but over the years I am proud to say he became a fine Chef, and tonights food is a real testament to his dedicate and skills as a cook, getting the balance of flavours of the dishes pretty much spot on, I wish him all the best”.

Local pig breeder and pork farmer Samantha Gray  who owns and runs Middle Farm Cottages in Church Stretton added “Many of our guests who stay for up to a week often ask where to go for a light lunch or night out when in the area, and although we are blessed with some wonderful venues in the region, sometimes its hard to recommend somewhere which offers wonderful traditional hospitality and great quality local produce, consistently, but if tonight is anything to go by, the Mail Rooms will be top of my list – beautifully cooked food, and friendly staff”

Since the buyout from the previous owners, former Head Chef now Chef Patron Will Mason uses only the highest quality, locally sourced ingredients in his dishes at this 46-seater restaurant, and will be serving the very finest ‘Classic British’ food. “Being brought up in Shropshire and working for many years with Stuart {Phillips – Hundred House} I was taught to appreciate good quality local produce and how to respect it – We are surrounded by wonderful suppliers in and around Ludlow which is why the likes of Will Holland and before him Shaun Hill set up their own restaurants here in the past, so its important to continue that tradition and serve great local produce, simply.” he added ” The atmosphere is stylish, relaxed and social, with food being served throughout the day Monday through Saturday, so we look forward to welcoming visitors to the town, as well as locals. We would just like to thank everyone for their support and kind words”

James Day of Hospitality Consultants Leisure Marketing who was also in attendance added “It’s great to see a venue getting all the ingredients right – quality regionally sourced food, cooked for flavour, and served with knowledge, in stylish surroundings – I wish Will and his team the greatest success.”
