Shropshire ‘Star’ Set to Launch Shropshire Pub AGA Carvery Innovation

John Challis AKA Boycie to open The AGA Carvery Concept at The Punch Bowl, Bridgnorth, Shropshire

John Challis AKA Boycie to open The AGA Carvery Concept at The Punch Bowl, Bridgnorth, Shropshire

An award winning Shropshire pub is set to have a high profile launch of its eagerly anticipated ‘LIVE AGA’ serving it’s Award Winning Carvery to thousands of diners for across the UK.

‘Ye Olde Punch Bowl Inn’ located just outside Bridgnorth in Shropshire recently announced a unique partnership with Telford based AGA, manufacturers of iconic cookers, to create a dining concept like no other in the UK.

AGA cookers who have been manufacturing their iconic cookers in Shropshire since 1929 have become the ‘must have’ for many a domestic cook, and fashionistas, as well as more professional bakers and chefs around the UK and across the World.

Ye Old Punch Bowl Inn are currently undergoing a partial re-fit to install an AGA Total Control cooker, which will take centre stage at this award winning carvery, allowing guests to experience their meals being cooked and served by The Punch Bowl team straight from the iconic hot plate. The official launch will be on the 10th February and the invited guests will help launch this concept, helped by fellow AGA owner John Challis who played the much loved Character of ‘Boycie’ in the BBC TV Show Only Fools and Horses, as well as starring in Shropshire based comedy The Green Green Grass.

Adam Giles comments “We’re so excited about this partnership with AGA, it’s been a long time in the planning since I dreamt up the concept around 10 years ago.  It’s a dream come true. You could say its been a labour of love in recent months getting it all together. AGA and other local companies have been hugely supportive, and it looks like we will be completed on time and on budget to launch this first in the UK, right in AGA’s home County of Shropshire. Having Boycie to help support us at the event really will be the icing on the cake – or should I say the gravy on the carvery!”

On the launch night invited guests will be treated to a welcome of fizz, canapés created by the team, which will have a connection to AGA dishes and the ‘Nostalgia Inns’ menus across their two sites, including the Plough at Far Forest in Worcestershire. Following the official launch by Boycie, they will enjoy the state of the art AGA meals and a live jazz band, “The response from our invitees has been huge” adds Adam, ”but we have managed to fit everyone in, having to open our 150 seater Ludlow Suite to accommodate everyone, but we are certain everyone will have a great time and be impressed with this new concept for the region.”

John Challis who plays Boycie added “I first heard of this initiative at The Punch Bowl Inn, Bridgnorth last year on Twitter – it sounded intriguing and when I was asked if I would like to  support Adam and the team on the night, I was delighted – being an AGA owner myself I know how important it is to any household, including being the centre my own home where my wife cooks some wonderful meals, so I am really looking forward to seeing The Punch Bowl’s interpretation and trying their Award Winning Carvery served from it on the night.”

Adam Adds “I was brought up with an AGA cooker at my family home in Worcestershire and it was always the focal point of our activities. I come from a family of pub owners and passionate cooks and we would spend hours in the kitchen, creating new dishes and tasting what we had made.”

Awards – 2014 is set to be another bumper year for Ye Olde Punch Bowl Inn, with a string of National Awards in 2013 for customer services, Best Free House Pub, and as one of the regions top Wedding venues, and more recently a prestigious Inn of The Year award by Travel Guide Les Routier. “We would like to thank our regulars and look forward to the launch of the new Carvery Concept in association with AGA, and welcoming our regulars from the 11th February onwards, when it will be fired up daily serving our carvery and some wonderful Nostalic Specials from our new menu.”
