Yesterday Shropshire’s finest Asian restaurant Chefs’ battled it out for the crown of Shropshire’s Curry Chef 2014. The annual competition is organised by Shropshire Council to promote food and kitchen hygiene across the County, this year was competition was fierce, with over 100 entries of the regions finest Asian Chefs – Including last years winner Dr lal Haider, of the Old Hall Persian restaurant in Dorrigton Near Shrewsbury.

Restaurant assesments were made for the 3 months leading up to June by Council Environmental health officials and the final 4 were announced end of May. The competition was held at the new Shrewsbury Catering College, and the Head Chef of The King and Thai Restaurant, located just outside Broseley, Chef Dan Power, was crowned Shropshire’s Curry Chef of the Year for 2014. His winning Thai Green Curry was described as ‘perfection’ by judges.

Under the tutor ledge of Executive Chef Patron of the King and Thai, Suree Coates, who herself has won an impressive stable of accolades including the current holder of the UK South Asia Curry Chef of The Year, as well as last years Thai Curry Chef of the Year – Chef Dan was taught Suree’s passions for flavour, texture and presentation which has brought her much acclaim an helped contribute to dan’s award “I am so proud of Dan” comments Chef Suree “I think its important to train your team and empower them to achieve greatness and Dan has does exactly that – beating over 100 Asian chefs in the process is amazing”

Dan (pictured with Suree) added “I am overwhelmed with this award – I have never entered a competition, but Suree encouraged me, and helped train me, and winning was way beyond my expectations. I am delighted with the results and the support for our suppliers and customers.”

Chef Suree announced at the awards that they will now open lunchtimes to keep up with demand “Many customers have tried to book for Friday and saturday nights and cant as we are booked up weeks before, so we are now opening lunchtimes Friday and Saturday, and now they can enjoy award winning dishes created by both Dan and I” laughed Suree.

You can now enjoy Chef Dan’s award winning Chefs Suree & Dan’s specials including his Thai Green Curry alongside fresh fish of the day. Special menus Friday & Saturdays 12-3pm. 2 courses from £10.
